T: Estimated abundance of anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) and other pelagics obtained by hydroacoustic cruises in the Peruvian marine ecosystem (2020). Inf Inst Mar Peru. 48(3): 327-349. In 2020, two hydroacoustic cruises were carried out between February 15 and March 29 (Cruise 2002-03) and between September 22 and November 13 (Cruise 2009-11) onboard IMARPE’s research vessels, with the support of fishing boats from the Peruvian National Fisheries Society. We aimed to know the distribution and biomass of anchoveta as well as other pelagics in the Northern Humboldt Current Ecosystem (NHCE). The most abundant species in the coastal area were anchoveta and squat lobster, while in the oceanic zone, jumbo flying squid and vinciguerria stood out. In Cr. 2002-03, anchoveta was found retracted to the coast, up to 42 nm offshore, with biomass estimated at 9.52 million tons. In Cr 2009-11, it showed a sparse distribution, being found up to 110 nm, with biomass of 11.05 million tons. In 2020, oceanographic conditions were considered to be normal, so anchoveta’s population status was healthy. The biomasses of jack mackerel, chub mackerel, longnose anchovy, and squat lobster were higher in the first cruise than during the second, with values of 365,419; 473,580; 28,146, and 3,209,857 tons, respectively. Catfish, vinciguerria, and jumbo flying squid showed higher biomasses during the spring cruise with values of 36, 231; 999,726, and 1,073,364, respectively.-
