dc.description.abstract | ABSTRAC: In early summer 2017, the sea surface temperature increased south of the equator to central Peru due to the weakening of the southern trade winds, as a result of the El Niño Costero. We studied its effect on hydrobiological resources in Vegueta, Carquín, Huacho, and Chancay (Lima Region). Information on the following was analyzed: Huacho Oceanographic Line at 10 nm, environmental quality, fisheries landings, stranding reports, biological indicators. We determined that the positive Thermal Anomaly in March reached up to +5.4 °C and the Subtropical Surface Water (SSW) masses up to a depth of about 40 m. The weakening of the coastal upwelling was observed and with the warming, there was a migration of hydrobiological resources to the south. The favored species were Scomber japonicus, Trachurus murphyi, Coryphaena hippurus, Sphyrna zygaena, Sarda chiliensis chiliensis, Myliobatis peruvianus, Odontesthes regia, Sciaena deliciosa, Mugil cephalus, Dosidicus gigas, Thaisella chocolata, Octopus mimus, Dorytheutis gahi, and others. The resources that went further south were: Engraulis ringens, Myliobatis chilensis, Platyxanthus orbignyi, Romaleon setosum. The most affected were the populations of Emerita analoga and Semimytilus algosus, macroalgae such as Chondracanthus chamissoi and Ulva lactuca, which showed stranding. There were also species unusually found in these areas: Strongylura exilis, Polydactylus approximans, Sphyraena ensis, Caranx caballus, Selene peruviana, Opisthonema libertate, Fodiator acutus rostratus, among others. | - |
