T: In order to assess the influence of oceanographic settings on the population structure of Peruvian hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus), physical and chemical parameters in seawater (temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen) in the northern coastal region of Peru were studied during May 2014 and June 2015. The results suggested that dissolved oxygen may operate as a control factor that limit the distribution of Peruvian hake, since the highest densities were found at highest dissolved oxygen levels (>0.2 mL/L). Furthermore, it was observed that seawater temperature may limit the Peruvian hake age structure, since specimens younger than 2 years were found in warmer environments associated to CCW (>15 °C), whereas specimens between 2 and 3 years were associated to ESSW (13-15 °C) and specimens older than 3 years were associated to EDW. Secondly, the results suggested that the ENSO event, occurred during June 2015, could have enhanced the preferences of specimens between 2-3 years for ESSW in comparison with that observed during May 2014 (Non-Enso conditions). Finally, it was observed that warm oceanographic events (e.g. ENSO events) may affect the latitudinal stratification of Peruvian hake, since specimens between 1-2 years exhibited a northward displacement. The results also suggested that the warm oceanographic events may trigger a decrease in reproductive activity for specimens younger than 2 years; nevertheless it may promote the increase of reproductive activity for specimens between 2-3 years.-
