Edad y crecimiento de juveniles del calamar gigante Dosidicus gigas (d’Orbigny, 1835) en el océano Pacífico frente a Perú, durante el verano 2007

Abstract

Se determinó la edad y crecimiento de juveniles del calamar gigante Dosidicus gigas (d’Orbigny, 1835) durante el verano 2007 mediante el análisis de anillos diarios en estatolitos. La muestra de 255 estatolitos fue obtenida durante el crucero de evaluación de recursos pelágicos a bordo del BIC Olaya. La longitud del manto LM (mm) de los ejemplares analizados varió entre 15 y 144 mm y el número de microincrementos observado varió entre 20 y 88. Las relaciones LM - Número de incrementos, Peso total PT – LM, y PT – Número de incrementos fueron significativas ajustándose a relaciones potenciales. Se estimó la tasa de crecimiento absoluta (TCA) (mm.día-1) donde el promedio diario fue de 1,78 mm.día-1, variando desde 0,82 mm.día-1 para un calamar de 20 días hasta 2,35 mm.día-1 para un ejemplar de 88 días. Se discuten los resultados en relación con otras investigaciones.

ABSTRACT: The age and growth of juveniles of the jumbo flying squid Dosidicus gigas (d’Orbigny, 1835) are determined during the austral summer of 2007 by the analysis of daily rings in statoliths. The sample of 255 statoliths was obtained during the pelagic resource assessment cruise aboard the R/V Olaya. The mantle length ML (mm) of the specimens analyzed varied between 15 and 144 mm. The number of daily increments ranged from 20 to 88 mm. The relationships ML - Number of micro-increments, Total weight TW (g) - ML, and TW - Number of increments were significant adjusting to potential relationships. The absolute growth rate (AGR) (mm.day-1) was estimated giving a daily average of 1.78 mm.day-1, and ranging from 0.82 mm.day-1 for a 20-days-old individual to 2.35 mm.day-1 for an 88-day-old specimen. The results are discussed in relation to other investigations.
