otros ommastréfidos, presentando traslapes entre la distribución espacial de estos grupos (Nesis 1970, 1983;
Nishizaki 2001, Argüelles et al. 2008, Argüelles y Tafur 2010, Arkhipkin et al. 2015).; ABSTRACT: In this paper, biological information has been
collected and analyzed from the monitoring of the fishery for jumbo flying squid Dosidicus gigas from 1989 to
2016, which has allowed us to know the annual and interannual variability of the reproductive cycle of the
species in the Peruvian sea, its regime changes over time, as well as the basic structures of gonadal maturity.
The analysis of the reproductive indices of D. gigas, GSI (gonadosomatic index), NGI (nidamental gland
index), RA (reproductive activity) and SCI (spermatophoric complex index, males only), indicate that there
is a period of greater reproductive activity, which begins in August and ends in February of each year, with
greater intensity between October and January. The highest proportion of mature females was found in 1996,
the year of La Niña event, which preceded the last Extraordinary El Niño (1997/1998), suggesting that this
type of event (La Niña) favors the maturation of the ovaries of individuals in the large group. In females, the
GSI shows a tendency to increase, which is not observed in males. The estimate of the size at first maturity
for females, calculated with the complete series, was 306 mm mantle length (ML) for the ‘small shape’ group
and 642 mm ML for the ‘large shape’ one; while, for males it was 201 mm ML for the ‘small shape’ group
and 514 mm ML for the ‘large shape’ one. This intraspecific structure is complicated and is the case of other
Ommastrephides, presenting overlaps between the spatial distributions of these groups (Nesis 1970, 1983;
Nigmatullin et al. 2001). The existence of intraspecific groups in the jumbo flying squid population with
different reproductive and population parameters has been previously reported for this species (Nesis 1983,

en fase II o III.; ABSTRACT: With samples obtained during the
Research Survey on Jumbo flying squid, aboard the R/V Shinko Maru 3, carried out in October-November
2000, visual gonadal characteristics were contrasted with microscopic features, determining a gonadal
maturity scale consisting of 4 gonadal development stages for females and 3 for males. For the case of
females, the four stages of gonadal maturity proposed in this paper, are equivalent as those proposed by
other authors. It is important to mention the high frequency observed in stage I, in some cases found in large
individuals. In males, the presence or absence of spermatophores in spermatophoric sac or in the visceral
cavity indicates whether the individual is in stage II or III.2018-01-01T00:00:00ZObservations on embryos and embryonic development from an egg mass of the jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas spawned under captive conditions

Título : Observations on embryos and embryonic development from an egg mass of the jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas spawned under captive conditions

Resumen : Egg masses were spawned by a jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas (mantle length 37.5 cm) held in a tank (500
L) on board the R/V Kaiyo Maru during a joint Japan-Peru cruise in Peruvian waters during December 2011–
February 2012. Part of an egg mass was collected and incubated in an aquarium (10 L) maintained at 20 °C.
The eggs had a unique jelly envelope surrounding the chorion. The diameter of the jelly envelope was more
than twice the diameter of chorion. It remained clearly visible until the embryos reached developmental
stage 18. Most of the eggs were fertilized and hatched (Stage 30) 6.5 days after spawning at 20 °C.; RESUMEN: Masas de huevos fueron desovadas por un calamar gigante Dosidicus gigas (longitud de manto
